The Games You Need for Youth Group

Posted on Aug 1, 2025

The important part of youth ministry is the spiritual mentoring to the youth, which most easily occurs after relationships have been built. But when a new youth shows up at youth group, big fun helps draw in the stranger and keep them coming till they form bonding relationships and experience God.

For those of you looking for indoor activities for youth group, I wanted to share with you Download Youth Ministry. Download Youth Ministry or DYM, has all kinds of resources.  I really like their screen-based games.

I used DYM screen-based games when youth group was exclusively online a few years back. All I had to do was buy a game for a few dollars, download it, and use it like a PowerPoint Presentation. One of our church youth group’s favorite DYM games is “Did They Pumpkin Spice It?” An image of a product like pumpkin spice pet food would pop up on the screen, and the group had to guess if it was a real product. It was a good icebreaker because it got the youth talking about the ridiculous items that are seasonally flavored or scented with pumpkin spice.

Our youth group has hosted a crafting weekend in the fall, where individuals pay to spend the day at church working on their favorite craft. The attendees were mostly women making their family’s scrapbooks, Christmas Cards, etc. The youth group served three meals, snacks, and led games with prizes to break up the time. Guess what game the youth group decided to lead for the crafters? Yes, “Did They Pumpkin Spice It?” was just as popular with adults!

If you’ve been to Quake recently, you may have played a DYM game or trivia during a Celebration or Friday Night Fiesta.

I know it takes a little time to scroll through a website and pick out the perfect game for your youth group. But, it’s also quicker to use a pre-made game than to create a media-based game from scratch.

Final Thoughts

At the heart of youth ministry is creating spaces where students feel welcome, build friendships, and grow in their faith. Whether you’re looking for a quick game, a full lesson series, or tools to equip your leaders, DYM might have what you are looking for. Does that sound like a sales pitch? It’s just me sharing a resource that might help my favorite kind of people-youth ministry people.
